12 Days of Craftsmas Day 1: Photo Ornaments

Welcome to Day 1 of the 12 Days of Craftsmas! I’m sharing 12 easy-to-make holiday crafts over the next 12 days.

Lets get started with some photo ornaments that are easy to make, completely custom and could be a great gift!

Photo Frame Ornaments

What You Need:

Picture of your choice (I printed mine with my hp sprocket plus and the photos have sticky backs which was very helpful)

2 pieces of chipboard/cardboard/an old cereal box (one will be the frame piece, one will be the back piece)

1 piece of patterned paper (for the frame piece)

1 piece of plain paper (back piece)

1 piece of ribbon (to hang your frame)

Something to cut with: scissors/exacto knife/box cutter

Something to attach with: hot glue gun, glue stick, Elmers glue, double stick tape

How To Make Photo Frame Ornaments (step-by-step):

1. Cut two pieces of chipboard a little bit larger than your photo (lay your photo on top and trace it to get a good idea of the size of frame you want around it).  Cut two pieces.  Cut the piece of plain paper the same size also (this will be the back, we will use it later).

2. On the piece you traced the photo on, draw lines just inside the photo lines and cut out the inside rectangle you just drew using an exacto knife.

3. On the back of your patterned paper, trace your frame leaving space around all four sides.  Cut the patterned paper a bit larger than your frame, then cut out the inside as shown and the outside as shown.

4. Glue the patterned paper to your frame piece.  Wrap the extra paper around to the back and glue down.

5. Attach your photo to the center of your back piece, then attach the ribbon to the top (I think hot glue is best for this).

6. Attach the front piece to the top of this stack. Wrap the excess paper around to the back piece, trim the paper as needed around the ribbon and glue down.

7. Glue the plain piece of paper to the back to cover up the excess.

8. You did it! Pat yourself on the back and then hang on your Christmas tree or gift to a loved one!

Overall this is a pretty simple project and the options are endless! For a Christmas ornament, I used holiday themed paper, but these would also be good as a personalized gift using the recipients favorite colors for the frame. Adding embellishments would also take these up another notch!
